Daisy and I did a little 3-mile day hike up to the top of a hill called Elephant Back.

The lake was at something like 7,700 feet,

the climb was about 800 feet.

The elevation at the top of Elephant Back was about 8,500 feet. This would prove to be a
useful warmup exercise for the backpacking trip I would be making the following weekend to
Young Lakes in Yosemite. That trip
would start at 8,500 feet, cross a pass at 10,500 feet,
and then settle in at around 9,850 feet.
But I digress. After the hike the camera went into the cabin and the beer came out of the cooler.

These pictures were taken the next day on our drive east out of Yellowstone.
This picture was taken looking west in the direction of Yellowstone, on the road east to Cody.
